Ben Rifkin

Ben Rifkin is an academic with more than two decades of experience in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, scholarship, higher education administration. Currently, he is professor of modern languages and literatures at Ithaca College, where he teaches courses on Russian literature and film. Ben Rifkin also served as provost and vice president for educational affairs at Ithaca College from 2015 to 2016, overseeing academic and student affairs as well as the school's Division III athletics program. He previously served as Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at The College of New Jersey, as Vice Dean for Undergraduate Affairs at Temple University's College of Liberal Arts, and as a professor of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was also director of the Russian School at Middlebury College. He has won awards for his scholarship from AATSEEL and awards for teaching and advising from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Prof. Rifkin obtained his PhD and master's degrees in Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Michigan. He completed a combined BA/MA program in Russian & East European Studies at Yale University, where he was the first to undertake the combined degree program in this field. He has also completed professional training such as the ACE Institute for New Chief Academic Officers, Harvard University's Management Development Program, and has been certified as a tester and then as a trainer for the oral proficiency interview by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. Benjamin Rifkin has won over $1.5 million in grants, including, the U.S. Department of Education Grant for Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Language.

Prof. Ben Rifkin has an extensive record of service. He is the former president of the American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages (AATSEEL), and a former board member of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, the American Council of Teachers of Russian (ACTR), and the NJ Council for the Humanities. He has won awards for service from AATSEEL, ACTR, and Middlebury College.
